how to nail that picture-perfect wardrobe.  ↓

As a family photographer, nothing makes my heart happier than seeing a cohesive, well-thought-out set of outfits that scream vibe and aestheticccccc. So, let’s dive into what worked and how you can level up your family outfits for your next session.

COLOUR PALETTE

One of the biggest wins? Their choice of colour palette. Sticking to a handful of neutral tones (white, tan, and black in this case) gives the images a cohesive, polished feel. It’s simple, classic, and easy to replicate. Remember that neutral tones are your best friend. They’re easy to find and work well together in almost any environment.

VARIETY

The key to keeping group photos interesting is variety and levels. This family did an amazing job of mixing up textures and styles. From high-waisted skirts to mid-rise pants and different shirt combos for the boys, it added just the right amount of variety. Mixing in skirts, dresses, and overalls/jumpers kept the look fresh and engaging, something you’ll want to consider for your next shoot.

SHEER AND SHINE

Mixing in a couple of items throughout that add texture will take your outfits to the next level. The mom’s textured skirt and the white tulle dress were perfect examples of how to create visual interest without overwhelming the images. If you're offering outfit tips to clients, suggest incorporating sheer or textured fabrics into a couple of pieces to avoid flat-looking images.

INTERESTING PATTERNS

Finally, patterns! This family kept it smart by using mostly solid colours for the bulk of their outfits and introducing patterns sparingly. It’s an easy way to keep the look timeless and minimalist. If you or your clients are aiming for that Pinterest-worthy look, stick with subtle patterns and avoid trendy prints that might look outdated in a few years.

Last but not least, I tucked the MOST IMPORTANT family outfit tip under all these RAD family photos. ↓

DON’T FORGET: If you’re after timeless images, it’s a good idea to stay away from super trendy patterns, bright colours or most logos/graphics. When incorporating patterns, consider keeping the number of patterned items to keep your group from looking too “busy”.
